ICE launches new program to create more collaboration between ICE and local enforcement
Updated: Dec 11, 2019
We are outraged at ICE and its “creation of a new collaborative program intended for local law-enforcement that wish to honor immigration detainers but are prohibited [from doing so] due to state and local policies that limit cooperation with the agency.”
The Warrant Service Officer (WSO) program will only attack our immigrant families and increase the detention of more of our community members. ICE essentially will deputize local law enforcement to do ICE's job of serving administrative warrants, arresting individuals and holding individuals in their jails.
Rural county sheriffs need to be held accountable to serve communities, not a federal agency! Click here to read ICE’s full press release announcing the program.
